U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam is taking a leading role in the Republican Party’s 2010 version of a contract with America.
Roskam, a DuPage Republican, was tapped this week to be the vice chairman of a new committee charged with producing the contract-like GOP document - initially dubbed “Commitment with America.” The new contract will develop an agenda that addresses the priorities of the American people, particularly jobs creation, growing the economy and reigning in out-of-control government spending. A rising star on the national scene, Roskam spent much of last week touring Illinois with House minority leader Eric Cantor, a Virginia Republican. The two men touted the need to reign in government spending and creating an environment that will benefit the creation and expansion of small business.
According to Politico.com the project will be built in part from a social media network where the GOP solicits input from people around the country.
“A newer member of Congress, Peter understands that the old Washington-knows-best attitude in Congress has failed the American people and we need a new way of doing business,” Rep. Kevin McCarthy, the head of the project, told Politico.
