Wayne Township precinct committeemen have used the summer months to augment their knowledge of party and government organization.
The group has covered party structure, county and municipal government.  Future sessions will include township government, special districts and committeeman duties.
“We have so many new PCs.  It was really a necessity", says WTRO Chairman Ken Spitz.  “But, both veteran PCs and visiting candidates told me they learned new lessons as well.”
Spitz used portions of the regular monthly meetings to run the training sessions.  “It is much easier to digest the information in small bites rather than all at once,” Spitz notes.  For those who missed a meeting due to summer travel, WTRO produced electronic files for at-home review.
This is the second year WTRO decided to meet throughout the summer months.  The 2008 meetings focused on preparations for the November election.  With no fall election in 2009, an opportunity existed for PC training.
“Political work has really become a year-round effort”, says Spitz.  “Not meeting through the summer months just gives away too much momentum.”
